The 2016 Lexus ES 350 and 300h are coming this fall looking refreshed in all quarters. The sedans already made their debut during the Shanghai Motor Show.
2016 Lexus ES 350 Exterior
The automaker has retained its conservative styling on the new ES sedans; however there are some exciting new modifications. Both sedans which are offered with 4-doors will have a length of 193.3 inches, width of 71.7 inches and a height of 57.1 inches. It will have a wheelbase of 111.0 inches and a total curb weight of 3,660 lbs.
At the front, you will find a more prominent spindle grille. The new grille features a wide hourglass shape. The front fascia is more aggressive and comes with LED headlights. At the rear, you will find L-themed taillights and trapezoidal exhaust outlets as opposed to the previous round ones.
Both sedans will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels as standard though fans of the ES 350 will have an option for 20-inch wheels.
2016 Lexus ES Interior
The interior of the 2016 Lexus ES sedans is pleasing. The automaker has added a new finish styling which features Linear Dark Mocha wood, Bamboo and Illustrious piano Black wood with a matt finish. The center display unit features a 4.2 inch TFT screen; there is also a Touch interface with two ‘Enter” keys on both sides to improve its operation. The car which will accommodate five passengers also features NuLuxe leatherette as standard and also comes with a sound-deafening material that ensures passengers are not disturbed by its engine noise.
Safety-wise, the sedans come with a Lexus Safety system that offers various safety features. They include radar cruise control with pedestrian detection capability, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, high-beam headlights and automatic collision notification. Other features will include a navigation system, front and rear park-assist sensors, rain sensing wipers among other features.
Engine Specs and Performance
The 2016 Lexus ES 350 and 300h models come with unchanged power-trains compared to previous models. As such, the ES 350 will feature a 3.5 L V-6 engine that produces 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. This engine uses a VVT-i variable valve timing system and is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission system. In terms of fuel economy, the engine delivers estimated ratings of 21 mpg for city, 31 mpg on highway and 24 mpg combined. This engine moves from 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds.
On the other hand, the ES 300h features a 2.5 Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine which is paired with an electric assist motor and a battery pack. The battery is charged via a regenerative braking system. This combination produces 200 hp. Power is transferred to the front wheels via a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). It will be offered in three modes where one mode the “EV” allows the car to drive purely on battery power during short drives.
This vehicle will splint form 0-60 mph in 8.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 112 mph. It returns 40 mpg combined fuel consumption. Both engines are in front-wheel drive.
Price and release date
The 2016 Lexus ES made its debut during the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show with sales following later in the fall. According to reports, the 2016 Lexus ES 350 and 300h will be released in the last quarter of 2015. The base model of the ES 350 will have a base price of $ 38,625 while the ES 300h will have a base price of $ 41,505.
