Toyota’s Scion subsidiary is set to release a new version of the Scion iQ for as a 2016 year model car. After failing to impress the American market with previous models, the new 2016 Scion iQ is designed as a compact vehicle with the same North American market in mind.
However, yet again the car could find it hard to penetrate the American market since there is no sufficient market for such cars yet. However, the car will do pretty well in Asian and European markets mostly in urban areas where the streets are small with a lot of traffic jams.
2016 Scion iQ Exterior
Scion designers put plenty of time in coming up with the iQ’s smart design. In general, the design is extremely aggressive. At the front, the tiny car features a redesigned horizontal-shaped front grille. The vehicle also features LED technology for both the headlights and taillights.
The new little Scion has a rear spoiler, a stabilizer, lowering springs, lightened door sills and new fog lights to aid maneuvering in poorly illuminated areas. The vehicle will ride on 16-inch alloy wheels.
The new iQ is offered in a single trim but there is a limited edition of the car known as the 2016 Scion iQ Monogram which will feature a 2-tone paint exterior, a rear spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels with a unique graphite finish.
2016 Scion iQ Interior
The interior of the 2016 Scion iQ is exceptionally designed and features high quality materials. The car accommodates four passengers in its three seat cabin; 2 front seats and a rear seat which accommodates two passengers. The rear seat has a 50/50-split fold capability which expands cargo space from 3.5 cubic feet to 16.7 cubic feet. It also has four storage compartments on the doors as well as 2 rear cup holders and a center console.
Technological features in the Scion iQ include a 6-inch touch-screen infotainment system, a 6-speaker pioneer stereo, USB interface, iPod, HD radio, an audio auxiliary jack and Bluetooth connectivity. Its steering wheel is wrapped in leather and is integrated with secondary audio controls. The iQ’s windows are power operated and there is also an air conditioning system to keep temperature levels ideal.
For safety purposes, the car comes adequately equipped. To start with, the Scion iQ has received good ratings in crash and rollover tests and has been awarded with 4 stars by the safety administration of National Highway Traffic. It also features electronic stability and traction control and, anti-lock brakes.
The 2016 Scion iQ also features a package of 11 airbags which include; front side airbags, knee airbags at the front and the rare front seat cushion airbags and rear window airbags which also serve as headrests for rear passengers.
Engine Specs and Performance
Small cars of this nature are usually fitted with tiny engines. In this case, the Scion iQ features a 1.3 L, 4-cylinder engine. The tiny engine produces 94 hp and 89 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) as standard.
The engine moves the Scion iQ from 0-60 mph in 10.4 seconds. In terms of fuel economy, it has EPA ratings of 36 mpg and 37 mpg for city and highway drives respectively. The 2016 Scion iQ attains a maximum speed of 80 mph.
Price and release date
Scion has not released official information on the 2016 Scion iQ release date or price. However, according to rumors, the vehicle will make its debut in dealer showrooms before the end of 2015 or early 2016.
The base model will cost ( MSRP) around $ 13,000 and buyers who prefer additional options will pay more for the extras.
