2016 Toyota Highlander

Just after releasing the 2015 Highlander, Toyota is set to follow up with a new model dubbed the “2016 Toyota Highlander”. The new model will feature a new, elegant look and a powerful but efficient powertrain.

The new 2016 Toyota Highlander which will be the third in the Highlander series will feature improvements to its exterior and interior. Toyota will offer the vehicle in five trim levels will be; LE, LE Plus, XLE, Limited, and Limited Platinum.


The exterior of the new Highlander 2016 won’t feature many changes. However, it will be remodelled to a sportier look. However, the manufacturer has done updated its headlights rims and taillights.

The new headlights will feature Xenon and LED lights while the taillights will be of LED type. The rims have been redesigned as well as the grille which will come in different colour options. The hybrid model will have concealed exhaust pipes.


2016 Toyota Highlander Interior

The interior will be feature a number of changes meant to improve its drivability, comfort, control, safety and entertainment features. Standard features will include auto on /off headlight button, a 6.1 inch touch screen to display important information, a rear camera, privacy glass and a cruise control system.

The seating and cargo space will be spacious. The first row seats will be adjustable manually while second and third row seats will feature 60/40 split adjustability. For entertainment purposes, there will be Bluetooth connectivity, a CD player, Ipod/USB compatibility and an auxiliary input.

Higher trim levels will have more features such as blind spot monitoring, a pre-collision system, electric steering, rear cross traffic as well as heated seats.

Engine Specs and Performance

The new 2016 Toyota Highlander will feature two engine options. The base model will have a 3.5 L V6 engine. This engine will have a capacity to produce around 270 hp with 248 lb-ft of torque. The second option will be a 2.7 L 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 185 hp with 184 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines will be connected with a six speed automatic transmission system. Apart from the Limited Platinum trim level which will have an exclusive all drive mode, all the other trim levels will utilize either front wheel or all wheel drive modes.

The fuel economy of the V6 engine will be 19 mpg for the city and 21 on the highway while the 4-cylinder engine will have a fuel economy of 20 mpg and 22 mpg for city and highway respectively.


Price and release date

The price of the 2016 Toyota Highlander is expected to fall between $ 30,000 and $ 38,000 depending on the trim level. The price has been competitively set to give it competitive advantage over its competitors which will include Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Acura MDX and Subaru Outback. According to released information, the manufacturer is expected to release the vehicle in the first quarter of 2016.
