There is some good news from Toyota for the eco-sensitive motorists and others who love eco-friendly automobiles. Toyota is set to release the ultimate green car. The 2016 Toyota Mirai has been touted as the green car that our future needs.
Toyota Mirai Exterior
This car might not be the prettiest of Toyota cars but the auto maker has done a great job with it. It features a signature look that cannot be mistaken for any other car. The look has borrowed much from its sisters Corolla and Prius. The front fascia features two huge air intakes which allow passage of cool air as well as enhance its look.
All trim levels will be equipped with a panoramic roof as standard. There is also a captivating character line that runs from the headlights to the A-Pillars; the sides will also feature a host of excellent accent lines that complement the side look. The rear features triangular-shaped taillights, a hidden exhaust pipe as well as a large light bar which runs across the trunk.
2016 Toyota Mirai Interior
Inside the Toyota Mirai 2016 you will find plenty of details. To begin with the cluster design which is borrowed from the Toyota Prius has been fixed at the upper end of the dashboard. The dash also features a large center screen that hosts the custom Toyota’s Entune system which centralizes navigation and entertainment controls for the driver.
The Entune system comes equipped with GPS which comes in handy when locating hydrogen fueling stations. To enhance the safety of occupants, the new vehicle comes with a vehicle pre-collision system, a lane-departure alert, blind spot monitoring and drive start control. To complete the cabin, the automaker has put up piano-black plastics.
Engine, Specs and Performance
Instead of the petrol engine we are used to, the 2016 Toyota Mirai will feature an electric motor capable of producing 152 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque.
Unlike other electric cars where we are used to a pack of batteries, the Toyota Mirai will derive power from reaction between the stored hydrogen and outside oxygen. This hydrogen cell stack will offer 3.1 Kw/L of hydrogen. This reaction only generates electricity and water vapor meaning the new Mirai is 100% eco-friendly, it will in fact produce 100cc of water for each mile. Power delivery is instant through a single speed gearbox.
The car will move from 0-60mph in around 8 sec, with a top speed of 100 mph. A single charge will run the car for 300 miles. Motorists will love the fact that the auto maker has equipped the car with a power take off (PTO) function that will enable them to use the vehicle as a generator to power their houses. For safety purposes, the auto maker has built the hydrogen tanks using Kevlar and carbon fiber which ensures they remain sealed in case of a crash. The tanks have been tested in extreme climates and have been proven to be safe.
