The long wait for the 2016 Toyota Tacoma is nearly over as the Japanese auto maker is scheduled to release the new Tacoma in the market after it was showcased during the Detroit Auto Show.
The good thing about the new Tacoma is that the manufacturer has maintained its original formula that has endeared many to the brand. Toyota has kept enhancing its strength, power and off-road capability as well as improving its fuel economy and cabin features.
2016 Toyota Tacoma Exterior
The 2016 Toyota Tacoma has adopted most of its exterior features from the new 4Runner and Tundra. The front will feature the hexagonal grille the same in the 4Runner with slim headlights which utilize LED technology.
The sides and rear are more muscular and come with plastic inserts to protect the vehicle from rocks. The stance will include an access cab and double cab. The access cab will be hooked up with a 6-foot bed while the double cab will go with a 5- foot short bed or a six-foot one on a long-wheelbase chassis.
The new 2016 Toyota Tacoma doesn’t come with a regular cab model. The SR trim level which has been touted as the ‘work truck’ rides on 16-inch wheels and tires same with the SR5. The TRD sport will feature 17-inch wheels and a hood scoop while the limited features 18-inch wheels and standard everything.
2016 Toyota Tacoma Interior
The Japanese car maker has made a number of interior changes to this model which will come in five trim levels which include SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD and Limited. To start with, the center console has been redesigned to a more organic and Tundra look and feel. A new hand-brake –style- e-brake has replaced the previous left-foot brake unit.
To reduce interior noise levels, Toyota has installed a multiglazed windshield, a thicker floor pad, sound-absorbing headliner and all- new seats around all doors. The base model will also feature a soft plastic dashboard, improved seats and waterproof mats. Other features will include air conditioning, multifunctional steering wheel; adjustable front seats, a 4-speaker audio system as well as USB connectivity.
Top trim levels come with additional features such as satellite navigation, leather upholstery and electric front t and rear seats with a refrigerated compartment.
Engine Specs and Performance
The new 2016 Tacoma will keep the existing engine as but it will also offer a new one. The existing engine is a 2.7 L 16-valve inline-four cylinder engine with an output of around 190 hp. This engine will be mated with a 6 speed automatic transmission system. It will have two drivetrains; rear wheel and all wheel drive modes. This engine will achieve 24 mpg (9.8 l / 100 km) or higher fuel economy, 17 mpg in the city .
The second engine variant is aluminium 3.5 L V-6 which offers two six speed transmission systems; a manual and an automatic one. With this engine, the new Tacoma 2016 reaches a top speed of 115 mph while accelerates from 0-60 mph in 9.8 sec.
Price and release date
Dealers are set to receive the first shipment of the next-gen Tacoma cabs in September 2015 according to our reliable source. The entry level SR Access cab 4X2 with the 2.7L 4-cylinder engine will have the cheapest price (MSRP) of $24,200 while the highest trim level with 4×4 will cost as much as $ 38,720.
