How do you produce an affordable subcompact sedan that is economical and still pass it across as cool? Well, you instruct your design team to work extra hard and come up with a unique design. That could work but could take time and the design could misfire in the market.
The solution: pick an already proven subcompact car and rebrand it with your own logos and badges. Well some will say it lacks authenticity but according to Toyota it makes business sense which is what matters. Toyota took the Mazda 2 sedan and added a few refinements and their own badges. So don’t be surprised when you see a Mazda-like car donning Toyota badges on the streets.
Toyota says that the vehicle is targeted to buyers looking for a sedan with premium features but still with the ease and efficiency associated with subcompact cars. The Yaris is sold as the Scion iA in the US.
