Reports from Lexus indicate a new LX is in the offing but for 2019, the current model only gets slight updates. The most significant change is the addition of a 2-row model to join the current model which is only available in three rows of seats. What’s more; the new model will be a whopping $5,000 cheaper than the 3-row version. The automaker targets the new 2019 Lexus LX to those buyers who are in the market for a big SUV but need more cargo space than the extra row of seats. The model is christened “Lexus LX 570 Two-Row”. It is however not clear whether the model will be available for the diesel-powered LX 450 which is however not sold in North America.
2019 Lexus LX Exterior
Regarding the exterior design, the LX gets just a refresh for the 2019 model year. Most of the refresh is concentrated on the front fascia where the model gets a slightly revised spindle grille. The new unit seems slightly larger than on the current models. The bumper also looks more aggressive which makes the front of the LX look more intimidating. The headlights now feature revised LED DRLs. The brake lights have also been revised. The wheel designs have also been changed and buyers will choose between 20-inch and 21-inch wheels. Other features carry over.
The most significant change for the 2019 Lexus LX is the addition of the new 2-row version. The LX 570 Two-Row will accommodate 5 passengers leaving more space for cargo. The new model offers 50.5 cubic feet of cargo space, an improvement of 5.8 cubic feet compared with the 3-row LX570. The rear seats have 40/20/40 power split-folding capability. The model shares other features with the 3-row variants including a 12.3 –inch display for the infotainment system; the system comes with quad-zone climate control and satellite navigation.
The LX is available in a single, but well-equipped trim. All seats which are wrapped in leather are also heated as standard but ventilation is only standard for front seats. The model also has a leather-wrapped steering wheel that also features “shimamoku-woodgrain trim” as well as paddle shifters. The driver seat is 14-way power adjustable and has a cushion extender and dual-function lumbar support. The passenger seat is on the other hand 12-way power adjustable. The steering wheel retracts automatically while the driver’s seat moves backward when the vehicle is switched off to enable easy exit; the two return to their positions when the driver gets back and starts the engine.
The cabin also features ambient LED lighting, a wireless mobile charger and a premium sound system with Bluetooth connectivity and DAB digital radio. For rear passengers entertainment, there is an 11.6-inch screen on each of the front seats backrests.
The SUV also comes standard with a tire-pressure monitoring system, crawl-control, adaptive air suspension and a 360-degree camera network. The model also features the Lexus Safety System +, a suite of driver assistance systems which include active cruise control, adaptive high-beam, lane departure monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The SUV also features the Lexus Enform Safety Connect that features Roadside Assistance, Emergency Assistance Button for emergency support, and Stolen Vehicle Notification.
Engine and performance
As the name suggests, the LX 570 is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.7 L, V-8 gasoline engine that’s good for 383 hp and 403 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission channels power to all wheels. When fully equipped, the LX 570 can tow up to 7,000 pounds (3,175 kg). Fuel economy rating for the engine remains unchanged at 13 mpg in the city, 18 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg on combined drives. In other countries other than the U.S., and Canada, Lexus offers an option for a diesel-powered V-8 engine. The 4.5 L, Turbodiesel mill produces 268 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. Models with the mill are given the “LX 450” moniker to set them apart from the gasoline-powered LX 570. Like the Toyota Land Cruiser V8, it is based on, the LX features Adaptive Variable Suspension, and low-range, Torsen limited-slip differential.
Price and release date
The 2019 Lexus LX will have an introductory price of around $85,000 for the LX 570 Two-Row (third-row models price starts at around $90,000) and can rise to over $100,000 when extra options are factored in. The 2019 Lexus LX will reach dealerships in the third quarter of this year.
The 2019 Lexus LX competes with other premium SUVs such as the Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes-Benz G Class, Cadillac Escalade, and the Range Rover among others.
